Back to the Dorms?

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

I have been surprised that new york energy rates are much cheaper than I expected them to be. I relocated to Manhattan last spring because I was starting a doctoral program at NYU in the fall. I had always dreamed about living in the Big Apple. I love it that I am finally here and studying what I love. I knew that New York City was going to be expensive, but I really did not estimate correctly just how expensive it was going to be. I have already plowed through my savings and am living paycheck to paycheck. Luckily, I have an assistantship in my program and get a stipened and tuition waver from the school. Everything in New York is more expensive, except for my power bill! I do need to take into account that my NYC apartment is so small that it is probably less expensive to heat! If I am really out of money by December. I may have to leave my small apartment and move into an even smaller NYU dorm. I hope that won’t be the case!
